International Roaming without HD Calling

This service is only for customers traveling internationally who do not have a global or HD calling-capable device.

Before You Travel

To enable your phone for international usage you'll need to purchase a World Sim Card (unless traveling to Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands) for $15 plus tax. You'll then need to get in touch with us to make sure your phone is set up.

The Plan

Starts at $4.95 per month with additional fees for voice and text being Pay Per Use and varying by country (see specific countries). You can opt-out of your monthly roaming charge after the first month.

Special notes for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands

Your phone will work automatically, so there's no need to purchase a World Sim Card or contact us for initial setup. When you arrive in the country, you'll receive a text letting you know your rates. Generally, they are as listed:

*All calls are billed in full-minute increments with International Directory Assistance calls billed as regular airtime charges. You will need to place the country code in front of the number you are dialing when calling or texting internationally. For a listing of country codes, visit this website. For a listing of international emergency telephone numbers equivalent to 911 in the United States, or for general travel advisories, please consult the U.S. Department of State website. Rates do not include taxes, surcharges or other fees.

Activation

When you arrive at your destination, remove your Bluegrass Cellular SIM card and replace it with the World Sim card. We'll send you a text message letting you know the rates for the country you're visiting. Upon returning home, you'll want to make sure to swap the World SIM card with your original Bluegrass Cellular SIM card.

Manage Your Data Consumption

We recommend turning off any background apps to avoid unforeseen data costs. You can also download and install the My Data Manager app which allows you to easily monitor your data usage.

Troubleshooting

If you are having problems making or receiving calls, try the following steps:

  1. Check the dialing pattern. Unless contacts are saved with the country code, you will need to manually enter the phone number you wish to call.
  2. Turn Airplane mode on and back off.
  3. Turn the device off completely; then turn it back on and try again.
  4. Verify the SIM card is installed properly.
  5. Turn off iMessage to ensure texts send when away from Wi-Fi.
