Bluegrass Cellular CEO Re-elected to CTIA’s Executive Committee for 2013
Elizabethtown, KY (January 7, 2013) – Ron Smith, President & CEO of Bluegrass Cellular Inc., has been elected to his third consecutive term on the Executive Committee of CTIA – The Wireless Association®.
CTIA is an international industry trade group based in Washington D.C. representing the wireless communications industry. As an Executive Committee member, Smith will represent the interests of regional and rural carriers while addressing the essential issues facing the wireless industry to help ensure it remains innovative and competitive. His one-year term began January 1, 2013.
“To be re-elected to the CTIA’s Executive Committee is truly an honor. I look forward to working with fellow industry colleagues as we address the critical challenges of spectrum, network interoperability and cyber-security,” Smith said.
With close to 27 years of experience in the wireless industry, Smith is one of two small carrier sector representatives on the Executive Committee. He managed the launch of Bluegrass Cellular in 1990 after a 13-year career with GTE, a legacy company of Verizon. Bluegrass Cellular was the first to offer analog cellular service to central Kentucky in 1991 and digital cellular service in 1998. Today it provides 4G LTE data services to many rural areas not reached by the networks of larger, national carriers. Smith’s involvement with CTIA began in 1992 when he was first elected to the Board of Directors.
