Bluegrass Cellular Announcing Anti-Cyberbullying #ThinkBeforeYouType Campaign
ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (March 1, 2017) – Bluegrass Cellular is taking a stand against cyberbullying and encouraging customers and members of the community to #ThinkBeforeYouType. Throughout the month of March, BCI will focus on safe and kind use of mobile devices across all social media channels.
34% of students between the ages of 12 and 17 in a national survey have experienced cyberbullying. Of those students, nearly two-thirds who experienced cyberbullying said it influenced their ability to learn and feel safe at school.
“With the advancements in technology we’ve seen over the last 10 years, we’re more connected now than ever before,” said Barry Nothstine, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Bluegrass Cellular. “It’s important to remember there is a person on the other side of the screen and your words can have a real impact on them. We encourage everyone to use words to build people up instead of tearing them down.”
High school students in grades 9–12 in Bluegrass Cellular’s service area are invited to submit a column addressing safe smartphone habits and how they relate to cyberbullying. A panel of judges will select three winners who will each receive a $1,000 cash prize. Winning columns will be posted to Bluegrass Cellular’s website and pitched to local media for possible publication. The deadline for submission is March 31. To enter, visit bluegrasscellular.com/about/mobile-sense.
