“Penguins” Jump In for Junior Achievement’s Penguin Plunge

UPDATED (Friday, February 23, 2018) - Due to forecasted stormy weather tomorrow, February 24, the Penguin Plunge will be rescheduled for Saturday, March 3 at 10am. The event will still take place at Bluegrass Cellular's Customer Care Center 1608 Ring Road location.

Elizabethtown, KY (Feb. 16, 2018) – The Penguin Plunge, presented by Bluegrass Cellular, is returning for its seventh year to raise money for Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana on Saturday, March 3. Participants, or “penguins,” fundraise a minimum of $50 and jump into a pool of ice-cold water. Registration for the event will open at 10 a.m. and will take place at Bluegrass Cellular’s Customer Care Center 1608 Ring Road location.

Proceeds from the Plunge will go toward providing JA financial literacy programming to students throughout Hardin County, assisting with work readiness and entrepreneurship educational experiences to students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

“Junior Achievement is an amazing organization that makes a huge impact on our community,” said Barry Nothstine, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Bluegrass Cellular. “JA’s teaching program provides our classrooms with the hands-on experiences students need to understand how they can influence their communities as workers and consumers and overcome challenges.”

This year participants will be able to fundraise online to easily request donations. Last year’s Plunge collected $14,000 and drew more than 50 penguins. The organization hopes to exceed those numbers.

“Every year I look forward to seeing the number of courageous participants that come out to support the young people in our community,” said Lindsey Alicna, Junior Achievement Board Member. “It has been amazing to see this event grow in numbers over the years. We are always delighted to see new partakers suit up and support the cause.”

The 2018 Penguin Plunge will take place rain or shine at the Bluegrass Cellular 1608 Ring Road location in Elizabethtown. Participants must be 18 years or older and are encouraged to wear unique costumes. Check-in for the Plunge will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a costume parade at 10:30 a.m. Participants can go to to preregister for the Penguin Plunge, or they can sign up in person the morning of the event.
