Drive Now Text L8R PSA

High School Students’ Winning PSA to Air on Local Television

A public service announcement (PSA) created by central Kentucky high school students for Bluegrass Cellular’s Drive Now Text L8R. wireless safety campaign will air on local television throughout February. The PSA is expected to air on WLKY in Louisville, B WBKO, EBKO and ENKY in Bowling Green, WKYT in Lexington and local Viamedia and Insight cable channels.

The PSA was the winning submission in a Bluegrass Cellular contest that challenged Kentucky high school students in the company’s 40-county service area to create a video about the dangers of distracted driving. Ryan Greer, Seth McCoy, Alex Rains and Cameron Reeves, all seniors at Whitley County High School, created the winning entry as part of a class project. The students were awarded a cash prize last fall.

The contest was part of the company’s Drive Now. Text L8R. wireless safety initiative, which launched in 2011 to encourage drivers to remain hands-free from cellular devices while driving. Since then, the company has asked customers to take the Drive Now. Text L8R. pledge to put safety first. Pledge cards are available online at here and at Bluegrass Cellular locations.

“We are excited that communities across Central Kentucky will have the opportunity to view the outstanding work of these students,” said Barry Nothstine, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Bluegrass Cellular. “We hope the message will encourage other students and their families to remain hands-free while driving.”

The winning submission can also be seen on Youtube here.

Bluegrass Cellular has plans to collaborate with Kentucky State Police this year to reinforce the Drive Now. Text L8R. message in high schools. The winning PSA will also be featured during those programs.

Kentucky law prohibits writing, reading or sending a text-based communication while operating a vehicle for all drivers.  Drivers under 18 are prohibited from a cell phone in any way while behind the wheel.
