Bluegrass Cellular to partner with local schools in “Don’t Miss the Bus”
Bluegrass Cellular is sponsoring a school-supply donation drive called “Don’t Miss the Bus” to benefit local schoolchildren most in need. The promotion will be in association with WQXE-FM and WULF-FM, two local radio stations.
A Hardin County Schools bus will sit outside of Bluegrass Cellular’s 1608 Ring Road location in Elizabethtown July 25-29 and the company’s Radcliff location at 2029 Wal-Mart Way on August 1. Bluegrass Cellular will ask community members to bring school supplies to any of their locations and those supplies will be loaded onto the bus. The promotion’s goal is to fill the bus with school supplies.
The supplies will be divided proportionately between Family and Youth Resource Service Centers at Hardin County Schools, Elizabethtown Independent Schools and Fort Knox Community Schools. Those centers will then give the supplies to families needing assistance with materials required for school.
“We’re very thankful for the school supplies generated from this wonderful promotion,” Hardin County Schools Superintendent Nannette Johnston said. “Children will benefit and be ready to learn from day one because they will have the materials they need. That will certainly relieve some stress on them and their families. We are grateful for our community’s generosity.”
According to the 2010 Huntington Backpack Index released by Huntington Bank, the national average cost for sending a student back to class with the school-recommended supplies is $474 for an elementary student, $545 for a middle school student and $1,000 for a high school student.
“For many families in today’s economy, the cost of school supplies is difficult to afford,” said Barry Nothstine, Vice President of Sales and Marketing , Bluegrass Cellular. “With the help of our customers and the local community, we hope to send hundreds of children back to school with all the supplies they need to have a productive school year.”
School supplies donations of any kind will be accepted. However, a list of recommended items is available at www.BluegrassCellular.com. Donations will be accepted July 25-August 1 at these area Bluegrass Cellular Customer Care Centers:
1608 Ring Road, Elizabethtown
2902 Ring Road, Elizabethtown
2029 Wal-Mart Way, Radcliff
Customers who make a donation at a Bluegrass Cellular Customer Care Center will receive a free “Don’t Miss the Bus” t-shirt courtesy of Bluegrass Cellular, while supplies last.
