Bluegrass Cellular Announces New Wireless Safety Initiative.
Bluegrass Cellular is launching a new wireless safety initiative, “Drive Now Text L8R” to encourage drivers to remain hands-free from cellular devices while driving. The initiative begins during Wireless Safety Week June 26-July 2, which is sponsored by the National Safety Council.
To kick off the campaign, Bluegrass Cellular’s 21 customer care centers will give away hands-free headsets on Wednesday, June 29. No purchase is necessary and recipients need not be Bluegrass Cellular customers to receive a headset. The free headsets will be available between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. local time, on a first come first serve basis, while supplies last. To find the nearest customer care center, visit www.BluegrassCellular.com/locations.
As part of the Drive Now Text L8R campaign, all hands free accessories will be offered at 50 percent off during Wireless Safety Week.
Bluegrass Cellular asks customers take a pledge to put safety first and Drive Now Text L8R. Pledge cards are available online at www.bluegrasscellular.com/other/wireless-safety or at customer care centers. Free thumb bands will also be distributed to customers, which serve as a reminder to remain hands free while driving.
“As a local service provider, we care about the safety of our customers and neighbors,” said Barry Nothstine, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Bluegrass Cellular. “Use of a hands-free device is an easy way to reduce distractions while driving. We encourage everyone to take advantage of this free headset offer and to take the pledge to not text and drive.”
Bluegrass Cellular plans to expand the Drive Now. Text L8R. program through a PSA contest for local high schools this fall and through community partnerships.
Writing, reading or sending a text-based communication while operating a vehicle is illegal in the state of Kentucky for all drivers. Drivers under 18 are prohibited from a cell phone in any way while behind the wheel.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, every 60 seconds in the U.S., more than 1 million drivers are using their cell phones while operating an automobile.
